Ambassador Feature: Mary Beth

Henry’s Story

Henry was born prematurely at 27 weeks weighing just 1 pound 5 ounces. His 130-day NICU journey was full of ups and downs and his parents were told several times he wouldn’t survive. But each time, the Lord saw Henry through and pulled his family out of the dark pit of despair, setting them again on the firm foundation of Christ.

An Opportunity to Give

This year for his 2nd birthday, Henry’s mother, Mary Beth, wanted to give back to the hospitals and care teams that supported them through their wilderness season. Having been a member of the Praying Through ministries online community for the past 1.5 years, Mary Beth was eager to partner with us through our Ambassador Program to deliver the hope of Christ to Atrium Cabarrus & CMC Main Concord in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Through a book drive, Mary Beth’s friends, family, former NICU nurses and complete strangers purchased 107 copies of the book “It Will be Okay” by Lysa TerKeurst from her Amazon Wish List. “Seeing those packages on our porch brought me such joy. It was so amazing seeing God work through this book drive.” Each donated book was matched with an encouraging note from Praying Through ministries, a gift tag in celebration of Henry, and a sticker of Biblical hope and encouragement.

The Blessing in being a Blessing

As Mary Beth and her friends gathered to pen some of the notes themselves and adorn the books with ribbon and tags, Mary Beth felt complete. “Writing the notes to the families was so very healing. When I had my son I knew God would use me in some way and seeing him finally use me felt amazing. I knew I was out of the trenches and using my journey for His glory. Writing my child's name on those cards was powerful. My son beat the odds and God proved every doctor wrong.”

For Mary Beth, delivering the books was very emotional. The doctors and nurses that saw them at their worst were now seeing them at their best. “It was so healing knowing that God used me in this way.”
